As the mother of two small daughters, I am always on the look out for new books – especially ones that can entertain while they teach. “The Mumpkins” is an adorable book that meets those goals AND keeps my little ones asking questions!‘Discovered’ by Jordan Thomas, “The Nile River Mumpkins” are a family of pumpkin looking people that live in Egypt, near the Nile river in a Purple-Painted pyramid. We have Li’l Tut, his sister Cleo, Mamma Nefi, Papa Khufu and his Crazy Uncle Ramsey. Li’l Tut finds himself in adventure after adventure, from fishing to a T-Rex, singing to the Beach – and even getting lost!
This is a great, youth friendly way to introduce the vast concept of the Egyptian culture and history to children – one that mine keep asking to read again and again! As a parent, I noticed that some of the story was mismatched, almost a stretch to get it to flow easily, but like I said – my girls loved it, and that is the most important thing.

When I picked this up I thought I would skim through it first—when reviewing a children’s book I like to first check for offensive material. Well, not only did I not find anything offensive, my attention was immediately drawn to the bright colors and interesting dialog. I think this is a book that parents and grandparents will enjoy reading to kids—many, many times. I would give it five stars. Great Fun
On the kindle (iPhone app) it is very hard to read. The book itself was cute but it was so hard to read it too ok away from the experience of reading it.
We have read several of The Mumpkins books over the past several months and then discovered that we had neglected to read the very first one. We have just remedied that and it was a very enjoyable read for us. This first book in the Mumpkins series is an introduction to the characters and their world, which is delightful. A family of mummified pumpkins who, in this story, travel to Egypt. We learn about the characters and their unique likes and talents. There is usually some cute lesson in the books and there is one here about being late. Another great children's book with some awesome illustrations. This really is a great series.
